ICAT 2009 marks a Uniquely Singapore, a Global City for All!
ICAT 2009 PDF Print E-mail

The Disabled People’s Association (Singapore) is a voluntary welfare organisation which serves as an advocate of all persons with disabilities.  In line with its mission to be the Voice of People with Disabilities, it will host the Third International Conference for Accessible Tourism (ICAT 2009) from April 22 - 26, 2009.

ICAT 2009 aims to bring People with Disabilities to the heart of a more inclusive global society.  Themed, "Tourism Unlimited: Access for All", the event endeavors to break down barriers to accessibility and allow free mobility for all.  As this event promotes accessible tourism in the Asia-Pacific region, Singapore offers a strategic location as the ICAT’s objectives fall in line with the country’s aim to become a Global City for All where unlimited access is allowed by universally-designed buildings and facilities.

However, more than just a platform for disability issues, ICAT 2009 also serves as a profitable avenue for the tourism sector to explore the many possibilities of expanding their businesses.  Accessible tourism is a growing market considering the population increase of the elderly, not to mention expectant mothers, families with young children, apart from people with disabilities who love to travel independently or with care givers and family members.  Understanding this promising business venture would surely turn over high economic gains in the long run that will benefit not only travel and tourism companies but also the country itself, particularly its people.

Conference Partner - i-CREATe 2009

icreate2009 logoi-CREATe is proud to announce her 3rd premier convention, 3rd International Convention on Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology (i-CREATe 2009) which will be held in Singapore from 22 – 26 April, 2009. This year's theme "Accessible Tourism" promotes accessibility for all with the adoption of universal design, where assistive technologies will be used and introduced in the environment to improve accessible tourism.

Building on the success of her previous convention in 2007 and 2008, which were graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindorn, Thailand, we are expecting a bigger convention in 2009 with over 500 delegates at the conference and workshops. Exhibition will run alongside with the conference and will be opened to trade and public.

Into the 2nd installment of the Student Design Challenge, i-CREATe aims to give our next generation a better understanding of disabilities and how using assistive and rehabilitation technologies can help to improve the quality of life for person with disabilities. This challenge will provide a good platform for students to demonstrate their problem solving and design skills in an international challenge against their peers. [...... more]
